Here is a helpful tip for you homeowners out there that face drain clogs and garbage disposal odors. This came from one of the Home Warranty Companies that I often recommend when asking for a one year home warranty when one of my buyer's is purchasing a home; or when it's my seller who has to provide the home warranty.
When facing a clogged drain, instead of using chemical drain cleaners to clear a clogged tub or sink, pour 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of salt down the drain, and then follow with 1 cup of white vinegar. Let it sit 15 - 20 minutes, then follow with a pot of boiling water. I have actually used this myself - and it works!
For those homeowners out there who constantly face garbage disposal odor (drives me crazy!), try this: Fill an ice cube tray with a mixture of 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water. Once the cubes are frozen, place 2 - 3 cubes down the disposal a week for about a month. Besides keeping the disposal clean and odor-free, this will help sharpen the blades also! (Grinding lemon peels in your disposer will also work well for odors).
Hope you enjoy this tip!

For those of us that have septic tanks. We have found this solution to work very nice. Put 2 or 3 Tablespoons of active yeast in your septic tank, once a month. It causes the Bacteria ot ferment and eventually dissolve. We buy the yeast at Sam's in bulk.Refergate any opened packs. This is the same yeast I use to make bread. This works in old or new septic tanks.
Shirley - thank you so much for the tip! I can use this tip for my Real Estate clients looking to buy homes with septic tanks. Great information!
