According to the Chamber of Commerce newsletter, Huntsville had some great news this past month! Toyota, one of Huntsville's leading manufacturers, will add capacity at it's engine plant here in Huntsville to increase North American production of it's four-cylinder engines!
This expansion allows Toyota to produce 216,000 four-cylinder engines annually. Production will begin by the summer of 2011. This additional production line makes our Huntsville plant the ONLY facility to make 4-cylinder, V-6 and V-8 engines under ONE roof! Even better than that - Huntsville is the ONLY Toyota plant manufacturing V8 engines outside of Japan! If you have NEVER been inside this awesome facility - call and see if you can tour --- it is fantastic!
Due to this expansion, at least 240 NEW emplolyess will be hired, raising Toyota Huntsville's total employment to more than 1,000!! We, in Huntsville, competed against such foreign countries as Australia, China and Japan for the project. AND HUNTSVILLE WON!!!!! HOW AWESOME IS THAT!
Governor Bob Riley had the following words to say: "This is exciting news for Alabama. All over the country, you hear about cutbacks and layoffs, but you don't hear about many expansions. Yet, in Alabama, Toyota is not just maintaining their production line, they're expanding it, bringing more than 240 new jobs to the Huntsville area. Toyota's investment in Alabama is an example of what happens when we create an environment in which bussiness can succeed and offer the best-trained, most flexible workforce you'll find anywhere in the world."
Brian Hilson, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce attributes the expansion to the quality of the Huntsville workforce. GO NORTH ALABAMA!!!
