HUNTSVILLE/MADISON COUNTY BOARD OF REALTORS LUNCHEON

I attended a Huntsville/Madison County Board of Realtors meeting today at the Huntsville Area Association of Realtors office. Mayor Tommy Battle spoke and, boy, did we ever get some exciting news about Huntsville/Madison County!

Did you know that 46% of the growth in the STATE of Alabama since 2000 has been in Huntsville/Madison County! Incredible!

ABOUT BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure): Between 2008/2009, 1800 BRAC positions were moved here. 1600 of those have been filled. Next year, 2010, 1700 more BRAC jobs will be moved to this area. Finalizing in 2011, will be 1100 more positions. By September 2011, there will be almost 5000 "direct BRAC" positions in place at Redstone Arsenal and surrounding areas.

Then, estimates are that between 2011 and 2015, there will be 5000 MORE indirect (support) positions in place in the Huntsville/Madison County area!

On top of this GREAT NEWS, the ATF and FBI are opening a "bomb" school on Redstone Arsenal! To facilitate all this growth, the MDA (Missile Defense Agency) is building a 990,000 square foot facility on the arsenal; and the Material Command is building a 440,000 square foot building. WOW - new construction also means new jobs!!

And - even more buildings will be popping up: the City of Huntsville has teamed up with a development company who will be building, in the near future, a new "Research Park type" complex near the entrance to Gate 9. We have to have more office space in Madison County to facilitate all the new jobs coming this way!

Finally - YES - the roads are being addressed. The state has agreed to help support a County Line Road exit/access directly to I565. They are also looking at taking an overpass from Research Park Blvd OVER Hwy 53; and are currently addressing widening Zeirdt Road. There are also other smaller street projects such as Church Street and Meridian Street.

Of course, all this wonderful news for this area makes for WONDERFUL news for Real Estate! Don't forget - send me any of your referrals coming to the North Alabama area!
